How can my architect email me a drawing file that I am able to `print to scale’ if I do not have CAD installed on my computer?

I am an interior designer and my clients architect needs to email me house plans.  If I do not have CAD installed on my computer, is there a way he can email me a file format that I will be able to print a `to scale’ drawings on my office copier?  I need the drawings in 1/8″ or 1/4″ scale so I can do design layouts.  He has been sending me PDF files that do not print to scale, and he does not know any other way to send file via email.

AutoCAD has export to PDF tool, but needs some settings to get a 1:1 scale file export.

Step 1: Open the 2D drawing and set up your viewport to the scale you want. In your case obviously it should be 1:1.

Step 2: Click Output > ‘Plot’ and select the Printer/plotter as ‘DWG to PDF.pc3’ (by Autodesk) from the drop-down list.

Step 3: In the bottom right corner make sure to select the correct orientation. For most of cases Landscape should work good unless you have a tall portrait drawing.

Step 4: Select the Paper Size drop-down, choose the paper size you want.

Step 5: Click ‘OK’.

Step 6: AutoCAD will open the ‘Browse for Plot File’ dialog box. Go ahead and specify the PDF file name and location to save it.

Step 7: Click ‘Save’.

You should now have a 1:1 scale PDF image.
